The Mighty Friar's ran at League Preview
on 9/23 and performed in outstanding fashion. This was after a great performance at the Woodbridge Invitational where they
finished 10th out of 160 schools 4 of which are ranked nationally. However, the Ivitational was marred by the unforunate
accidental tripping of Nick Chavez. This was early in the race and Chavez was able to get up and in a very gutty effort managed
to still run a great race to finish in 16:14. His injuries thankfully would not keep him out of Preview. At Woodbridge
Nick Mosey once again led the team with a school record time of 14:58 follwed by Peter Robie with a personal best of
15:23. The top two were followed by Chavez and in lifetime bests Tony DeFrancis and Matt Calabrese. Overall another good
effort early in the season.
At Preview the team with Chavez banged up from Saturday and a number of runners
with various respiratory ailments our expectations were slighty diminished. However, the Team came through! Mosey ran
a course record for for a dominant victory in 15:33. Peter Robie was 4th overall, Chavez followed in 11th, DeFrancis came
in next and in the 5th scoring position was a resurgent Rory Mahony. Mahony was returning from the respiratory problem. This
combined Team beat Mater Dei in a dual meet for the first time in school history. However, the effort didn't overcome Bosco,
although close it wasn't enough. The results then are Bosco 4-0, Servite 3-1 Santa Margarita 2-2, Mater Dei 1-3 and Amat 0-4.
This will setup a showdown at League Finals where we hope all teams are healthy and we can prevail.
